Living and working in a new environment is a complex endeavour that requires lots of sensitivity and humour from everyone involved. You need to find appropriate words in a more or less familiar language, get to know common ways and styles of communication, find out how to adequately deal with hierarchy and how gender roles are perceived. This training wants to encourage you to accept, reflect on and process the resulting challenges.
The focus is on how we can communicate expectations and concerns in a careful and culturally sensitive way. An important first step for this is to be aware of our own attitude and background. We will look at various approaches to communication and explore their application to our work context using practical examples.
In this training we will be taking a critical look at the concept of culture and various attempts at explaining it, including controversial ones, and will inquire into them for our own work.

The training starts at 2.30 p.m. on the first training day and ends at 1.00 p.m. on the last training day. This training takes place exclusively in English, no simultaneous interpretation is possible.

Discounts are possible on request. Participation is free of charge for professionals accepted by Dienste in Übersee in the selection interview.
