SUMMARY:Financing the future for a just climate -from a youth perspective
DESCRIPTION:The Bonn Climate Change Conference will take place from June 3
to 13, 2024. Climate finance will certainly be the subject of intensive neg
otiations. We are inviting you to discuss the outcome with us and to reflec
t on its consequences for the upcoming negotiations.\n\nIn view of the wors
ening climate crisis and the lack of ambitious climate protection measures,
more national and international climate financing is needed overall than i
s currently being provided.\n\nResponsibility for historical emissions is n
ot taken and there is only talk of climate change but very little action. Y
et climate finance is the topic of the current year of climate diplomacy. I
t will determine whether negotiation agendas are adopted, whether talks mak
e progress and whether the COP29 climate conference in November will be a s
uccess. Climate finance and the associated division between the countries o
f the Global North and the Global South is a perennial point of contention
and at the same time an opportunity to move the negotiations forward.\n\nAn
d right now, climate finance is needed to help mitigate emissions, adapt an
d repair damage or compensate for losses - for the disadvantaged in both th
e Global North and the Global South, such as smallholder farmers, who are f
inding it increasingly difficult to farm as climate conditions change.\n\nS
imultaneously, national understanding of the need for climate financing fro
m Germany and the EU for countries in the Global South is dwindling. Intern
ational cooperation is under increasing pressure to justify itself and it i
s becoming more and more difficult to communicate, why it is so important a
nd also in our own interest.\n\nWith different perspectives from North and
South, young and established civil society, we want to discuss how climate
finance can be secured, expanded and communicated. We warmly invite you to
join us and contribute your perspective.\n\n\n\n
